Our journey began with two women from a land that bridges the East and the West. But do you know where our name came from and why Fig?
First of all, it originates from the Mediterranean (and we are Mediterranean, duh!), figs are believed to be among the first plants cultivated by humankind and they have always been a symbol of abundance and fertility. From ancient Rome to the beginnings of Buddhism, they've played a significant role in some of history’s most fascinating stories. Let’s not get into those stories here, but let me tell you why we had our ‘this must be our name!’ moment.
At first glance, a fig might seem like just another fruit hanging from a tree. But a fig is actually a ball of flowers, it requires pollination to reproduce, but, because the flowers are sealed, not just any bug can crawl inside. It's a little miracle of nature, showcasing the delicate beauty that often goes unnoticed until the right moment.
This hidden beauty of figs inspired us to reflect on our own inner blossoms. Just like figs, we all have unique qualities and strengths that might not be immediately visible to the world. By nurturing these inner attributes, we can bloom and reveal our true selves when the time is right. Just as the fig's inner beauty is exposed when shared, so too can our inner beauty shine when we open up to those around us.
I believe we must take a lesson from the fig. Keep nurturing the blossoms that makes us uniquely us. And our mission as Fig is to help you nurture your inner beauty, just like a fig tree does with its inward blossoms.
